Anxiety and Depression

Anxiety

It is normal to experience anxiety from time to time, but you may want to explore treatment options if you are experiencing excessive and persistent worry about everyday situations.

You may struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep because you cannot stop worrying.

You may avoid normal situations because you are not sure how you will react.

Sometimes these symptoms negatively impact our relationships and our careers.

Stress, fatigue, and feeling on edge impact your ability to be present in your life.

If you are tired of poor sleep, impaired daily functioning, and unexpected episodes of overwhelming anxiety or panic, it may be time to get help.

Depression

Clinical depression is characterized by:

  • several weeks of low mood

  • loss of interest

  • fatigue

  • difficulty concentrating

  • sleep changes

  • appetite changes

  • and even thoughts about hurting yourself.

Proper medication can help.

Medication Management is the part of Psychiatry that involves starting a medication regimen and meeting regularly to assess its effectiveness, any applicable side effects, and make sure that you are taking an accurate dose of the medication.

Medication is only part of a comprehensive plan of care but is sometimes the missing link in your treatment regimen. Anxiety and depression are often co-occurring disorders, and many times can be treated with the same medications.

Medication Management FAQs

  • Most medications have some side effects. I consider your past medical history, current medications, and personal preferences to make sure that we select a medication that is safe for you. Most side effects are mild and stop once your body has adjusted to the medication. If side effects continue or are bothersome, we will work to find another more suitable medication.

  • Everyone’s body chemistry is different. Sometimes it takes a few medication trials to hone in on the right medication for you. I rely on your feedback as we work toward optimizing your medication regimen.

  • Talk therapy is an important part of treamtent for anxiety and depression. I typically recommend that you continue meeting with your therapist if you have one. If you are looking for one, I will be appy to refer you to someone who I think will be a good fit. Therapy + medication has been proven more effective than either treatment alone.
